Sunday Brunch and House Guests

Published on 05/18,2008

Since all the nieces are leaving town/the country in a few days and since all the out-of-town guests are leaving soon, we all gathered for Sunday breakfast/brunch at Cracker Barrel this morning. Got out of there in time to get to worship service, so all we missed was SS. I think there were close to 20 of us and we had great fun. Learned this morning that Tara will be going to Quita, Equador for a while this summer. All these world travelers ... and I'm excited about going to the beach next month!

Now for the house guests here at Mawmaw's Motel 6. Some of my brother-in-law's family stayed with us. Allan asked us a few weeks ago. No problem. First they were coming Friday, then Thursday, then Friday again. I never did get an ETA. Finally they showed up at 9 pm Friday night. I was pooped. Thankfully they were too. They unloaded the car and crashed.

Last night I asked them their plans for today, because I'd been told they were leaving this morning. Nope, they've decided to stay another night. I really wasn't prepared to feed these people today and honestly, a little put out about the whole situation. They're very nice people ... I just like to know in advance what the plan is, not make it up as we go. So at breakfast today I mentioned to Nancy about this afternoon's plans and that the company decided to stay another night. News to her ... and to Allan. Whatever their Plan A for today was had to be changed to Plan B.

We came home after church and proceeded with our own plans. Eddie got the rest of the old deck torn down ... Halleujah ... and I mowed the back yard, washed my filthy car, sprayed Spectracide up and down the driveway, and then started back to the burning pile. I even sat out there in the pouring rain during a brief shower. Looked like an idiot, I'm sure. But I never abandoned my post!

Now Ed's manning that position ... keeper of the flame ... and I came inside to make a cake to take to home worship tonight. I hope it turns out. It's a TOTAL experiment, especially since I ran out of cocoa powder. For the icing I'm going to melt some gheradelli chocolate and try to use it in place of the cocoa. We'll see. If it is a flop, I can always make some cookies or something.
