The Wedding

Erin, one of my nieces, married Joel today. The love of her life. It was an outdoor wedding and simply beautiful. Of course the lovely bride never looked anymore beautiful, and the groom cleaned up pretty good too. The ceremony was at a small farm in Portland, TN. The yard was beautiful ... iris in bloom and the tulip poplars were a sight to behold. We've had a fabulous spring ... no late freezes and plenty of rain. So all the greenery is GORGEOUS. 5 pretty bridesmaids in their green dresses, the flower girl with a cast on her arm, 5 handsome groomsmen in their black tuxes, and a cute little fella as ring bearer. Another niece, Tara, wrote a song and sang it toward the end of the service. Beautiful.
All the grandparents and stepgrandparents were there and no battles broke out. In fact ... and I wouldn't have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes ... my daddy (with his cane) was standing at the top of some stairs and my mother was struggling to get up the stairs. Now my mother HATES my daddy ... she'd rather tangle with the devil himself than have anything to do with him. BUT as she struggled up the stairs, Daddy reached out to help her, and SHE LET HIM. I had to tell my sister Nancy about it, and when I did, her eyes got as big as saucers and she said, "Oh, Lord, has Jesus come?" It was that big of a deal.
Anyway, lots of finger foods and fruits. Lots of different kinds of cheesecake (yum) and a beautiful 3-4 tier wedding cake. Not fancy at all, but simple and tastefully decorated.
Oops. I smell supper. Gotta go tend to that. More on the wedding later.
