Ice Maker Crisis

I'm in a crisis mode! For the first 20 years of our married life our ice maker consisted of ice trays that had to be filled manually. Apparently there was some unwritten rule in our household that ONLY Mom was capable of refilling empty trays or else other family members did not recognize empty or nearly empty trays when they saw them. I can't tell you the number of times ... at least hundreds if not thousands ... I picked up a tray to find only 1-2 cubes in it. AUUUUGH!


So when we moved in this house 12 1/2 years ago, we inherited a fridge with a real-live ice maker. I was addicted immediately. No more ice trays! Sometimes it takes to little to make a mom happy, and an ice maker made me extremely happy. The thing broke once and before the day was out I'd called someone to come replace it.

Then about 5 years ago we purchased a new fridge ... and this one has the ice/water dispenser on the front door! Can life get any better???? But last week it started acting up ... hanging and not spitting out my beloved crushed ice. I took it apart (sorta) and cleaned it out. Worked fine until last night. Ed couldn't get it to work and discovered a washer somewhere. Great. I just looked at it, and I see what is broken. One little metal thing-a-ma-jig. I'm hoping that it is the plastic container that holds the ice can be replaced easily. The problem is NOT in the door, which is the good news.

Gotta do something soon. I'm spoiled beyond belief. I MUST have crushed ice!

    Visit Cindy I took time to enjoy your writing. This one had me chuckling, at my desk, all alone in the room. OH, how I would love one of those ice makers. Our teen son is in charge of filling the empties. Imagine Momma's eyes when company comes and there is NO ice to offer a cold drink. I'd bet our teen son would like an ice maker too :) Hope yours is repaired quickly and without large costs.
