I was the nurse on call for coworker David today. He had his shoulder surgery at 7:30. At 9 I got a call to come pick him up. He was still groggy when I got there. Had to get instructions from the nurse and sign some papers. I told David I signed my name to some stuff that meant in case he dies I get everything (except the bills). Then we had to stop by Walgreens and get 4 prescriptions. I got called "Mrs. H" so many times I quit correcting. Two other coworkers and Eddie called to check on him. I told them I'd only had to slap David twice.
In reality I thought I'd take him home, feed him, give him some meds, he'd fall asleep, and I'd leave. Nope. He NEVER shut his eyes and barely shut his mouth. I've never heard him talk so much! Maybe it was the anesthesia. At any rate, he gave me the grand tour of his house. I know the story behind every piece of furniture, picture, and piece of glassware in the house. We even walked outside so I could admire his yardwork. It looked very nice.
Ernie was supposed to come get him after work, but he ended up having to have a cat scan and didn't get there until close to 5 o'clock. Shot my whole day. But what are friends for?
On another note, John came through his surgery fine. And Dale became a proud grandpa for the 4th time. First grandson, Jack, arrived this afternoon. Lots to celebrate!
