I'm Lost!

Last night we spent the night with the in-laws. A late afternoon storm had caused the power to go out for about an hour. Apparently it went off again sometime during the middle of the night. At 1:50 this morning we were awakened to: "Help me! I'm lost! And I gotta go to the bathroom really bad!" It was my 75-year-old mother-in-law. The power was off, and in the country when the power goes out, it is pitch dark. You can't see your hand in front of your face. She was trying to find the rest room (about 2 feet from her bed) and got turned around. She was in the hallway headed toward the kitchen.
I punched Eddie and said, "Go help your mother!" But by the time he got the cobwebs out of his head his dad had already come to her rescue. We all had a good laugh, she went to the potty, and then we all went back to bed. I've teased her about it all day. Just kept saying, "Help me! I'm lost!" And we'd all break into roaring laughter.
The trip wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, although Eddie's dad was a major grump most of the time. I don't know if it is his age, his generation, that they've slept in separate bedrooms for 10 years, or the fact that he grew up in MS, but that man can gripe about more things. I don't believe there's anything in the world that he is happy about. He fussed about grandkids, weather, ball teams, politics, medicare, interracial couples ... you name it and he had a negative comment about it. He used to not be like that. I just tune him out. If I don't, I'll end up in an argument with him. So believe it or not, I mostly keep my mouth shut. And folks think it can't be done!
When we got there yesterday ... about 11 ... Eddie's brother and his wife and 2 of their 5 kids were there. Eddie's sister and her boyfriend walked in right behind us. Another nephew and his wife came in shortly and then we feasted on ribs, potato salad, tomatoes, cantaloupe, squash, beans, potatoes, and sourdough bread. Like we weren't sufficiently overstuffed already, then we had pound cake with strawberries, strawberry pie, and lemon ice box pie. Stick a fork in me 'cause I was DONE.
Mostly sat around and talked the rest of the afternoon/evening (and listened to Papaw gripe) and watched the storms come in, the birds feed, and Papaw try to shoot a pesky fox squirrel that wants to eat all the bird feed. I think we did watch a little HGTv, which was OK. At least it wasn't 8 hours of Braves ball games ... which is what we usually end up watching and I HATE IT.
Up early this morning to go to a breakfast at a small Methodist church in the community. They have a big country b'fast the first Saturday of every month. Stuffed ourselves again with country bacon, sausage, pork loin, biscuits, gravy, and eggs. Burp. Even brains and eggs (NASTY).
So now we're home. I took a load of squash and green beans (already snapped, thank you very much) and some BBQ up to Daddy's. Then a Kroger run while Ed went to Home Depot for more deck supplies. He's had a break from that honey-do project and now it is time to get those rails done. We're having a home worship next weekend, and I'd love for the rails to be finished. We'll see.
Hope to take Jay to the Y tomorrow afternoon. Called to line that up and he was throwing a mad-dog fit. I told Chris to go wear out his hind parts and then call me back. Still waiting for that return call. Also called Kelly and checked in on her. She'll be home again in 2 weeks. YEH!
Tomorrow's another busy Sunday. Playing handbells in both services.
